"Pelvis level, hips square, facing straight ahead, tuck your tail, pressed between two panes of glass..." If you've ever listened to these instructions in class and worked to find this alignment in your body, you may be striving for an external aesthetic at the expense of healthy joint position. Embrace your curves and spirals. Discover new alignment strategies built around the safety of your joints.
This workshop will cover basic anatomy of the hips, sacroiliac joints and lumbar spine. We will explore standing poses, backbends, forward bends and twists through the lens of healthy joint position.
- Avoid compressive wear and tear on your joints over time.
- Learn integrated alignment that embraces the whole body and makes space for the breath.
We will begin with study of anatomy to identify key landmarks in the body (handouts will be provided). Then we will explore anatomy through movement, self massage and asana practice. You'll walk away with new strategies for managing and preventing hip, sacroiliac and low back pain.
This workshop is open to all students and teachers of yoga.
