CROSS-FADE: A Mentorship for Yoga-ish Teachers

soundboard_square.jpg

June 3 - September 1, 2019

Three months of direct access to me and my skill set, honed over a decade of mentoring teachers, guiding group and one-on-one classes, exploring practice across a wide array of modalities, and building clinical understanding as I work toward my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.

You’ll also network with an incredible group of outside the box thinkers and movers. Together we’ll raise the bar on moment education, and lift each other up.

Registration is now open.

Yoga Cross-Training Series at Reflections NYC

TUESDAYS 5-6:15PM

Reflections Yoga, 227 East 24th St, NYC

If you’ve been practicing yoga asana for a while, and are interested in mixing up your movement repertoire, this class is for you. The more I learn about the body, the more I understand that variety is essential. However, repetition is also important for motor learning, physical conditioning, and feeling safe. My hope is that this series will give you fresh insights, a weekly dose of nutritious movement, and lessons that are easy to reproduce on your own.

In this course you will:

  • Awaken blind spots in areas of the body underserved by a typical asana practice.

  • Mitigate common aches and pains by training balanced muscle tone and joint resilience.

  • Gain agency to make educated choices in your practice as it relates to your body, even if those choices go against the yoga status quo.

Classes combine yoga with physical therapy, strength training with resistance bands and body weight, Feldenkrais, Functional Range Conditioning, self massage, and conscious relaxation. All levels of experience and beginners are welcome.

DATES:

8 week series: June 4 - July 23, Tuesdays 5-6:15PM

PRICE AND REGISTRATION:

$168 for any 6 of the 8 classes

Because class themes will build week by week, and there’s immense value in sticking with a program over a period of time, I’m organizing this as a class series. I also completely understand that you might need to miss some weeks. That’s why you need only commit to 6 of the 8. If you later find that you’re able to attend all 8, great! You’ll be able to purchase an additional 1 or 2 classes for $28 per class.

In an effort to keep the group small and provide plenty of personal feedback, I’m giving advance registration to those who sign up for the series. After that, if space allows, I’ll open the doors for drop-ins at $35 per class.

Heathen Hill Retreat

HH_001.jpg

August 2 - 4, 2019

Move your body, breathe, feel strong, walk in the grass, float in the swimmin’ hole, laugh, settle, rest.

Almost every summer for the past 10 years (I think I missed one), I’ve visited Heathen Hill Yoga. Besides being a breathtakingly beautiful place with rolling mountain views, a hot tub under the stars, and the most insanely delicious garden to table food, Heathen Hill is a place where my movement practice has come to life.

I can’t put quite the right words around it because it doesn’t exist in words.

The practices are slower, longer, more intimate. 18 people in a room, trying, laughing, doing what we can, skipping what we don’t need, and generally enjoying the company of others. Birdsong outside the window, wind in the trees, connection. It’s magic.

Lip and Lisa are the hostesses with the mostesses. Two fierce and wonderful women who cook from their garden, speak their minds, and look over every detail of this stunning property.

I hope you’ll join me this summer for a breath of fresh air.

Workshops in Morehead City, NC

Join YogaWorks teacher and teacher trainer, Caitlin Casella for a weekend of mindful movement, embodiment, and play. These workshops may be taken separately, but are designed to build on one another. We will explore functional movement as a gateway to healthy practice of yoga asana and more skillful navigation of life. All are welcome. Variations will be offered for a wide array of yoga experience and physical conditions.

Friday Night Savasana Club – Friday, March 4th 6:15-8:15PM

This workshop combines self-massage, gentle slow flow yoga, breath and meditation to work out the kinks and invite awareness inwards. We'll finish with simple restorative poses and, of course, a long expansive savasana. Enjoy benefits that stay with you through the weekend.

Balance FUNdamentals – Saturday, March 5th 1:30-3:30PM

Explore relationships between the feet, knees, hips and abdominal region. This workshop will challenge your balance like never before. You will learn new ways to strengthen key support muscles in balance and stabilize the hips, pelvis and low back.

Relationships in Backbending – Saturday, March 5th 4-6PM

Building upon the lower body stability honed earlier in the day, we will move into backbends. Practice engaging the glutes and hamstrings for a supportive relationship between the thighs and pelvis. Free your low back by fine tuning your understanding of the relationship between the tail bone/sacrum and lumbar spine. Finally, we will begin to address the upper body... to be continued on Sunday.

Arms as Pathways of Weight – Sunday, March 6th 10AM-12PM

We bear weight on the arms frequently in yoga asana. For the health of our wrists, elbows, shoulders and upper spine, let's refine the relationships between the bones that support the upper body. We will demystify scapulohumeral rhythm and shine a light on what's happening on hands and knees, in plank pose and chaturanga, side plank and downward facing dog. Learn strategies for keeping your shoulders healthy for sustainable practice of yoga. You will have an opportunity to bring new awareness and refinement to your arm balances and inversions. Modifications will be offered for those who don't practice arm balances or full inversions.

$35 per workshop / $120 for all four workshops (save $20)

ASANA OFF THE GRID: PRACTICES FOR HEALTHY HIPS, SI JOINTS AND LOW BACK

"Pelvis level, hips square, facing straight ahead, tuck your tail, pressed between two panes of glass..." If you've ever listened to these instructions in class and worked to find this alignment in your body, you may be striving for an external aesthetic at the expense of healthy joint position. Embrace your curves and spirals. Discover new alignment strategies built around the safety of your joints.

This workshop will cover basic anatomy of the hips, sacroiliac joints and lumbar spine. We will explore standing poses, backbends, forward bends and twists through the lens of healthy joint position.
- Avoid compressive wear and tear on your joints over time.
- Learn integrated alignment that embraces the whole body and makes space for the breath.

We will begin with study of anatomy to identify key landmarks in the body (handouts will be provided). Then we will explore anatomy through movement, self massage and asana practice. You'll walk away with new strategies for managing and preventing hip, sacroiliac and low back pain.

This workshop is open to all students and teachers of yoga.
