Join YogaWorks teacher and teacher trainer, Caitlin Casella for a weekend of mindful movement, embodiment, and play. These workshops may be taken separately, but are designed to build on one another. We will explore functional movement as a gateway to healthy practice of yoga asana and more skillful navigation of life. All are welcome. Variations will be offered for a wide array of yoga experience and physical conditions.
Friday Night Savasana Club – Friday, March 4th 6:15-8:15PM
This workshop combines self-massage, gentle slow flow yoga, breath and meditation to work out the kinks and invite awareness inwards. We'll finish with simple restorative poses and, of course, a long expansive savasana. Enjoy benefits that stay with you through the weekend.
Balance FUNdamentals – Saturday, March 5th 1:30-3:30PM
Explore relationships between the feet, knees, hips and abdominal region. This workshop will challenge your balance like never before. You will learn new ways to strengthen key support muscles in balance and stabilize the hips, pelvis and low back.
Relationships in Backbending – Saturday, March 5th 4-6PM
Building upon the lower body stability honed earlier in the day, we will move into backbends. Practice engaging the glutes and hamstrings for a supportive relationship between the thighs and pelvis. Free your low back by fine tuning your understanding of the relationship between the tail bone/sacrum and lumbar spine. Finally, we will begin to address the upper body... to be continued on Sunday.
Arms as Pathways of Weight – Sunday, March 6th 10AM-12PM
We bear weight on the arms frequently in yoga asana. For the health of our wrists, elbows, shoulders and upper spine, let's refine the relationships between the bones that support the upper body. We will demystify scapulohumeral rhythm and shine a light on what's happening on hands and knees, in plank pose and chaturanga, side plank and downward facing dog. Learn strategies for keeping your shoulders healthy for sustainable practice of yoga. You will have an opportunity to bring new awareness and refinement to your arm balances and inversions. Modifications will be offered for those who don't practice arm balances or full inversions.
