MY STORY
I have been teaching yoga and leading teacher trainings for over a decade. With more than 20 trainings in 200 and 300 hour mentorship formats under my belt, it’s been a good run. Traveling around the US, Mexico, Japan, and Australia has granted me an opportunity to share what I love with curious students around the globe. No exaggeration when I say that I’ve learned something from every single student I’ve met along the way. If you’re reading this, and you’ve attended a training with me, thank you.
While my teaching has been deeply shaped by my study of yoga, I stopped calling myself a yoga teacher several years ago. I was injured, experiencing persistent pain, and made to feel small by teachers who overstepped boundaries. I arrived at the difficult realization that yoga’s philosophical underpinnings didn’t align with what I was teaching, and they weren’t mine to revise. I felt anxiety and anger over the direction the industry was headed—financially, culturally, socioeconomically. I hit a ceiling in what I was ethically qualified to offer students. Yoga, in the hands of a knowledgeable, boundary-aware teacher is a profoundly beneficial and impactful tool. Without embracing the practice as a whole, I knew it wasn’t mine to hold.
I stepped outside my knowledge base to ask questions and seek answers from other systems of movement, therapy, and contemplative practice. I added strength training. I studied developmental movement, motor learning, and functional skill acquisition. I learned about brain-body mapping, neuromuscular re-education, and the complexity of pain. My priorities and intention for movement practice have evolved.
My therapeutic aim is to make movement physically accessible to the general population and more widely available to folks across socioeconomic backgrounds. I strive to educate about the science of the human body while making space for the unknown.
To those of you who’ve been meeting me here over the past several years, thank you. If you are new to my site, welcome. I hope we can practice together soon through one of my offerings below.
